Frequently Asked Questions
If you have questions for Hootie’s Haven, please read through our FAQ. If your question is not answered here, please use this contact form to send us a message.
Hootie’s Haven takes the responsibilty for finding forever homes for the dogs in our care very seriously. Although it is not always required for every dog, we do prefer to place dogs in homes that have a fenced in yard so there is a safe place for interactive play. We will complete a thorough Vet Reference, so please include all vets your pet has seen for the last 5 years on your application. If you purchase flea/tick prevention from another source, please indicate this on your application and include proof. We must be able to verify consistant vetting for all animals in your home, including cats. Please make sure to speak to your vet so they know we will be calling and are willing to release information to us when we call.
Please think carefully about your answers to our application questions. Sometimes your complete and thought out answer may make your application stand out from the others. Unanswered or incomplete answers give the indication that you are not serious about the process.
We try to intervene and keep dogs out of the shelter, but we are limited by the availabilithy and requirements of our foster homes. Please complete this online form to surrender a pet to Hootie’s Haven.
All of our profiles on Petfinder contain detailed information about each pet. Please refer to the pet’s listing for the most current information.
Hootie’s Haven reserves the right to deny an adoption application for any reason. For the safety of the animals in our care, we do not disclose why applications were not approved.
We usually accept applications during a specific window of time (please refer to each pet’s Petfinder listing). Once the application window closes, we will take the next few days to process all the applications we receive and will then be in touch to set up meet and greets with approved adopters. The number of applications we receive determines how long it takes us to process them all. On average, it takes about a week. Hootie’s Haven reserves the right to deny an application for any reason.
Yes, we do accept applications from out of state adopters. However, we require adopters to come meet the dog in person. NO DOG WILL BE PUT ON TRANSPORT. It is also in the contract that if at any point in the dog’s life the adopter can no longer care for the dog, the dog must be returned to us at the adopter’s expense.
Hootie’s Haven only rescues and rehomes dogs. Please check Petfinder for a rescue near you who adopts cats and kittens.
Please check our Petfinder page to see our current list of adoptable animals. You can also follow us on Facebook to receive updates about pets we’ve rescued that will be available for adoption in the future.
